Australian Technology Transfer Award 2002
Technological innovations improving signal understanding in background noise are also directly applicable to the wider field of telecommunications engineering. CRC HEAR has collaborated with Telstra to develop the world's first acoustic shock protection device, using the latest Digital Signal Processing technology. The "SoundShield" intelligent shriek limiting software blocks the transmission of high-pitched acoustic shocks that occasionally occur in telephone networks. SoundShield is being manufactured and distributed by Polaris Communications, a leading Melbourne-based distributor of telephony equipment. In recognition of excellence in technology transfer, SoundShield won a CRC Association Technology Transfer Award. The award was presented at the CRCA's Annual Conference in May 2002 by the Minister for Science, the Hon. Peter McGauran.
